TURLOCK, CALIFORNIA.- Con el propósito de organizar actividades académicas, artístico- culturales y aumentar la presencia de la lengua española, de Latinoamérica, España y las culturas latinas en general, quedó oficialmente integrado y registrado como organismo estudiantil, el “Club de Español Interlatin@s” de California State University, campus Stanislaus, ubicado en el Valle Central, norte del estado. La mesa directiva quedó integrada por Sindy Zárate, presidenta; Raúl Murillo, vicepresidente, Cecilia Andrade, tesorera e Isaías Ibarra, secretario. Todos ellos estudiantes nivel licenciatura y con especialidad o subespecialidad en español y que han mostrado interés no sólo por ampliar sus conocimientos académicos, sino además por desarrollar inquietudes artísticas, literarias, de liderazgo, sensibilidad social y compromiso por impulsar la lengua hispana y sus culturas. Explicaron que el nombre “Interlatin@s” refiere a los latinoamericanos con su herencia española y de las lenguas y culturas romances, incluyendo a los “latinos” de Estados Unidos; “inter”, explicaron, refiere también a lo “interno” del ser y a lo “internacional”, ya que se vive en una globalidad real y virtual como lo representa la arroba, @, que a la vez integra al género femenino y masculino. Informaron que la mesa directiva tendrá dos reuniones mensuales y una general con la membrecía a fin de planear las actividades. Tienen proyectado organizar festivales culturales de fin de cursos, pláticas de orientación para su futuro profesional, talleres para mejorar la gramática, viajes de campo, festejos de fechas históricas claves como el 5 de mayo, presentaciones de libros y arte, exhibición de películas, convivencias informales, etc, etc. El club cuenta con la asesoría y consejería del Dr. Manuel Murrieta Saldívar, maestro de español para nativo hablantes y de literatura y cultura chicana, mexicana y latinoamericana y quien fuera designado por sus colegas del área de español del Modern Language Dept. Dra. Teresa Bargetto, Dr. Carlos Andrés, Dr. Enrique López Contreras y maestra Sandra García Sanborn, para impulsar la creación del club y asesorar al estudiantado en este sentido. CONSTITUTION

Article I. The name of this organization shall be Club de Español InterLatin@s. Such name has been chosen as a representation of the multinational emergence of Latinamerican students participating in the Spanish program at CSU Stanislaus .The prefix inter signifies two things. On one side, it represents the international combination of various students from different national origins. On the other hand, it denotes an internal cultural identity embodied by each individual’s presence.

Article II. Statement of Purpose:

InterLatin@s promotes the study of Spanish language, as well as the customs and traditions of Hispanic countries, in order to reinforce topics studied in classes.

Section 1. To build a strong and thriving Spanish Club at CSUS;to promote culture and traditions of Spanish-speaking people and assist students in the learning of the Spanish language.

Section 2. Host events and activities that assist students to learn more about the cultures of the Spanish-speaking people and issues that relate to them.

Section 3.Such goals shall be accomplished through various activities including, but not limited to: film showings; the celebration holidays of Spanish-speaking people; Spanish conversation groups; participation and support of the intercultural celebrations; sponsoring of guest speakers and/or performers, sponsoring of events related to music, literature, dance, and food of Spanish-speaking groups.

Article III. Membership:

Section 1. Interlatin@s is a non-discriminatory cultural club and therefore new members are welcomed regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religious preference, physical status, age, sexual orientation.

Section 2. Membership is limited to CSU Stanislaus students.

Section 3. Each member has equal rights and privileges. Among these: the right and privilege to exercise opinions, votes, and their voluntary participation.

Section 4. Faculty and staff at CSU Stanislaus are non-voting members. Their participation is welcomed.

Article IV. Officers:

Section 1. The elected officers of the Executive Board are the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary.

Article V. Meetings:

Section 1. Regular meetings will be scheduled on the first and last Thursday of the month during an academic year.

Section 2. The President may call a special meeting; all executive members must be given a minimum of 24 hours notice, No meetings will be held on certain holidays specified by the club’s executive team.

Section 3: Voting is only allowed to continuously participating members of the club.

Section 4: Quorum for voting on all matters shall be two-thirds of the current membership.

Article VI. Method to Amend the Constitution:

Section 1: Proposed constitutional modifications will be decided and accomplished by the Executive Board.

Section 2: Approval by two-thirds of the voting members present at a regular meeting shall pass a proposed amendment.

Article VII. Succession of Officers:

Section 1: In the event of permanent incapacitation, resignation, or removal, the line of temporary succession will be as follows:

President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer.

Section 2: Upon the vacancy of any office, a new candidate will be elected at the next regular meeting or at a special meeting.
